Alarming increase of patients with covid-19 in Guantanamo

If the figures were already worrying, the number of 632 new cases of covid-19 raises alarm in the easternmost of the Cuban provinces.

With only one confirmed case in Baracoa, the news of the day clears a little the concern prevailing since yesterday, when the statistics increased.

Yesterday, July 23, there were admitted in Cuba 62,267 patients, 19,264 were suspected, 3,482 under surveillance and 39,521 confirmed active.

For COVID-19, 53,006 samples were studied, resulting in 7,732 positive samples. The country accumulates 6 million 152 thousand 433 samples taken and 324 thousand 115 positive (5.3%).

Of the total number of cases (7,732): 7,617 were contacts of confirmed cases; 44 with the source of infection abroad; 71 with no source of infection specified. Of the 7,732 diagnosed cases, 4,024 were female and 3,708 were male.

Of the 7,732 positive cases, the 7.31% (565) were asymptomatic, for a total of 103,062 cases, which represents the 31.7% of those confirmed to date.

The 7,732 diagnosed cases belong to the following age groups: under 20 years of age: 1,558; from 20 to 39 years of age: 2,138; from 40 to 59 years of age: 2,546; and over 60: 1,490 cases.

- Maisí: 1 (confirmed case contact).

- San Antonio del Sur: 3 (2 confirmed case contacts and 1 imported case contact).    

- Yateras: 11 (10 confirmed case contacts and 1 without source of infection specified).

Of the 324,115 patients diagnosed with the disease, 39,521 remain hospitalized, 39,210 of them are clinically stable. There were 2,271 deaths (68 during the day), with a lethality rate of 0.7% vs. 2.15% in the world and 2.62% in the Americas; two evacuated, 54 returned to their countries; 5,578 patients were discharged during the day, and 282,267 patients have recovered (87%). There are 311 confirmed patients in intensive care units, of which 131 are critical and 180 are serious.

Sixty eight patients died yesterday. We deeply regret what happened and convey our condolences to their families and friends.

The region of the Americas reports 76 million 659 thousand 134 confirmed cases (+ 185 034), the 39.56% of the total number of cases reported worldwide, with 7 million 160 thousand 559 active cases and 2 million 4 thousand 692 deaths (+3 354) for a lethality of 2.62% (=).
