Covid-19 in Cuba: Where is the limit?

An absolute record of new patients with Covid-19 was registered in Cuba this Wednesday with the diagnosis of 7 745 cases, in a worrying and apparently unstoppable escalation of infections.

With regard to the province of Guantánamo, the ups and downs that have characterized the statistics in recent weeks are once again manifested, with a report of 280 cases on this occasion, none of them from Baracoa.

Guantánamo: 280 cases

  • Maisí: 24 (contacts of confirmed cases).
  • Manuel Tames: 12 (contacts of confirmed cases).
  • Niceto Pérez: 1 (contact of confirmed case).

At the end of yesterday, July 21rst, 59 568 patients were admitted to Cuba, 20 007 suspects, 3 912 under surveillance and 35 649 confirmed active.

A total of 50 844 samples were studied for COVID-19, resulting in 7 745 positive samples. The country accumulates 6 048 002 samples made and 308 599 positive.

Of the total number of cases ( 7 745): 7 666 were contacts of confirmed cases; 37 had a source of infection abroad and 42 had no specific source of infection.

Of the 7 745 cases diagnosed, 3 971 were female and 3 774 male.

An 8.6% (670) of the 7 745 positive cases were asymptomatic, accumulating a total of 101 990, which represents 33.0% of those confirmed to date.

The 7 745 cases diagnosed belong to different age groups: under 20 years old (1 351); from 20 to 39 years old (2 212), from 40 to 59 years old (2 610) and over 60 (1 572).

Of the 308 599 patients diagnosed with the disease, 35 649 remain hospitalized, 35 327  of them with a stable clinical evolution, 2 137 deaths accumulated (65 in the day); two evacuees, 54 returned to their countries, 8 883 discharges, 270 757 recovered patients accumulated (87.7%), 322 confirmed patients in intensive care: 130 of them critical and 192 seriously ill.

During the day, 65 deceased patients were reported. We deeply regret what happened and convey our condolences to his family and friends.

In the Americas region, there are 76 283 174 confirmed cases (+ 148 494) reported, 39.62% of the total cases in the world, with 7 082 419 active cases and 1 996 715 dead (+ 11 093) for a lethality of 2.62% (0.01).
