The story goes that Baracoa (in the province of Guantaánamo) was the first town founded in Cuba. In the city baptized by Diego Velázquez on August 15, 1511 as Our Lady of the Assumption of Baracoa, was also settled the first bishopric.

A few hours after the vote in the UN against the blockade imposed by the United States on the largest of the Antilles, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) in Baracoa staged a court to accuse imperialism of all the situations caused by the six- decades siege.
Cuba had this Thursday another overwhelming victory in the General Assembly of the United Nations, where was approved by 187 votes in favor, 3 against and 2 abstentions the resolution entitled “Need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba".
