Young canoeist from Baracoa is world champion
The young baracoeso of only 18 years, José Ramón Pelier gave Cuba his first title at the Canoe Sprint World Cup in Poznan, Poland when winning in the C-1 1000, a competition where his compatriot Fernando Dayán Jorge finished fourth.
Pelier, born in the area of Yumurí, won with a time of 3: 45.142 minutes, ahead of the Czech Martin Fuksa (3.46.346) and the Polish Tomasz Kaczor (3.46.574).
The new talent of the Cuban boating had a position at the semifinals, when entering in third place with 3.52.059 minutes, time improved this Saturday in almost seven seconds.
Experts evaluated from the headquarters the performance of Pelier as exceptional and estimated that Dayán was not fully developed in the last meters, considering that he could no longer aspire to gold, and preferred to reserve for the final of the C-2 1000 meters this Sunday, where he will look for the crown together with the experienced Serguei Torres.
In another final on Saturday, the also Cuban Mayvihanet Borges, 21 years old, finished fifth in the final A of the C-1 200 meters.
