The Baracoa´s people demonstrated once again that the patriotism and example of the generals Antonio and José Maceo and Flor Crombet is magnified when marching on a pilgrimage to the Obelisk of Duaba to commemorate the 124th anniversary of the landing that occurred on April 1st, 1895.

The street that bears the name of the date once again witnessed the tribute of the people in front of the bust to the Mambí Colonel Félix Ruenes, where students of the Glicerio Blanco Lores Secondary School, staged the uprising in support of the expedition members.

Among cheers and songs the inhabitants traveled four kilometers to reach the monument that perpetuates the landing of the Honor Schooner on Baracoa coasts with 23 patriots on board, a fact represented by a group of Sports professionals in the territory.

In the political event, seven prominent workers and an equal number of exemplary students of the Julio Antonio Mella pre-university received the card that accredits them as members of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Young Communists League, respectively.

Elexis Fernández-Rubio Navarro, President of the Union of Historians of Cuba, in Baracoa, recalled in the concluding words of the commemoration the importance of the arrival to the Homeland of Antonio Maceo and those who accompanied him in that battle operation.

Fernández-Rubio Navarro also highlighted the 60th anniversary of the first celebration of the anniversary once the Cuban Revolution triumphed, while mentioning the need to resume some of the actions that were carried out at that time.

The ceremony of remembrance for the 124th anniversary of the historic landing on Duaba Beach was presided over by Marisol Tito Tejeda, member of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party in Guantánamo; Israel Rodríguez Mengana, First Secretary of the PCC in the First Village of Cuba; and Luis Sánchez, President of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power in the municipality, among other local leaders.
